Bots[edit]

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Speedy delete tags[edit]

These tags should not be removed. You may replace them with a regular tag if you wish because they generally give a 7 day period so that you may add the required information. However, you must state where this digital image was acquired from. Just saying where the painting is not the correct, essential information.--Mark Miller (talk) 03:24, 12 December 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you. I don't really know why I get really riled up with this particular editor but every year around this time it seems to occur. I've been working way too hard on this particular subject to just let it go or turn a blind eye as I've been doing with a lot of his antics. --KAVEBEAR (talk) 04:49, 12 December 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Let it go. I have finally figured out why you have such a problem with me but I am not going to give out off Wikipedia information. Perhaps others will take time to look into the situation and you. Coffee is the last thing you need. Try some chamomile tea.--Mark Miller (talk) 04:42, 14 December 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

source of image?[edit]

Hi Kavebear, I have a question regarding this image. The Google Books source that you give does not show this image or only a tiny fraction of it, because it was obviously scanned folded together. Is this your own scan out of the book? Background of my question is that also the map beside page 32 (which I am looking for) is not shown properly in the book. Greetings,--Ratzer (talk) 07:48, 16 November 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Reverting crops[edit]

I noticed you've been reverting some crops for images in the clean-up category Category:Images with borders. As long as these files have the templates saying they need cropping, it's going to be a continual, endless cycle of cropping and reverting, which is counter-productive for everyone. That category link gives more information about the maintenance cropping categories and templates that can be used. Sweet kate (talk) 20:58, 4 March 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Is there a more specific template to use because my problems is only with the crops that are done improperly, cropping more than is necessary. I mean I could have done the crop myself if I was not wanting some help getting it down to the minute point where nothing except unnecessary frames are lost. --KAVEBEAR (talk) 22:34, 4 March 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I wanted a lossless crop. You removed the parts of the image backgrounds for no reason. Please check how other users perform these crops (see File:Kalakaua (PP-96-15-003).jpg for your version I reverted because it was not done right and the other version which another user did and I retained because I was satisfied with the result). I only want the page in the background cropped. I don't ever want any part of the image to be cropped. Whenever you address the images I've tag in the future, please keep this in mind or refrain from editing them. Thanks, --KAVEBEAR (talk) 07:49, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Possible heirs of Gertrude Miller-Toledo[edit]

It is not certain if she had children. It appears she was a battered wife (there is a book source for that claim) and divorced her husband in a rather controversial situation. I don't know the full details but it might be a tender subject should you approach anyone. Here is a list of her siblings in order to identify any possible heirs. This is public information so, no issue there.

Daisy Kaihikapumahana Miller, John Kilioe Miller, Virginia Kahelekaapuni Miller, Margaret Kaahumanu Miller, Mona Jane Miller and Elmer Ellsworth Kalahumoku Miller (and again, no relationship to my line although several names are similar).--Mark Miller (talk) 22:36, 27 June 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Liliuokalani image[edit]

D'ye think we should add the two derivative colour versions? I mean, I don't think they're particularly accurate - for one thing, look at the curtain in the upper left, which wasn't as obviously one in the older copies of the image, so it's treated weirdly in the colourised version, likewise the apparent artwork of some kind above the throne that becomes just more wall, because it too wasn't very defined - but it's from the same photo. Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license.
