Grant from the Port of Seattle helps rural travel destination tap into virtual reality technology to showcase key visitor assets
LONG BEACH PENINSULA, Wash. – December 5, 2017 – The Long Beach Peninsula recently released the first of three 360-degree, virtual-reality videos, tapping into one of the top strategic technology trends in destination marketing. The first VR video capitalizes on the destination’s top asset – the 28-mile long beach and includes expansive views and sounds of the beach, surf, ocean, dunes, beach goers, and horseback riders.
“The experiential quality of VR video offers a new mode of travel,” said Andi Day, executive director, Long Beach Peninsula Visitors Bureau. “Anyone with a smartphone or tablet and earphones is able to experience the sights and sounds of being at the beach.”

Upcoming videos will be of Cape Disappointment State Park, one of the top parks in the state, and Discovery Trail, a highly acclaimed coastal recreational trail for pedestrians and cyclists.
Day contracted Top 360 out of Seattle to produce the videos.
The project was made possible by The Port of Seattle, which awarded the Long Beach Peninsula Visitors Bureau an $8,000 grant with a match component through its Tourism Marketing Support Program. The grant was one of 38 The Port awarded to promote tourism throughout the state. donations.
“This is a regional and statewide tool available to all our partners to showcase Washington’s treasures,” said Day.
