High-end additions and expansions round out portfolio of independent lodging in the Southwest corner of the state
LONG BEACH PENINSULA, Wash. – October 15, 2019 – Exciting lodging options have debuted on Washington’s Long Beach Peninsula in the last few months. The new offerings include a boutique hotel, named At the Helm, at the Port of Ilwaco and an expansion of one of Long Beach’s most sought after, luxury properties – the Inn at Discovery Coast. Many more additions, updates and upgrades add to the visitor experience.
“What we have to offer as a rural destination is really amazing!” said Andi Day, executive director, Visit Long Beach Peninsula. “I love that we have so many local business owners hosting our visitors and such a great diversity of privately owned lodging options catering to them.”
At the Helm, an independently run, nine-room boutique hotel at the Port of Ilwaco, opened in June 2019. The beautifully renovated building boasts a maritime theme with warming reclaimed wood throughout and contemporary accents contrasted with historic photos.
In addition to a glass of beer or wine at check in, complimentary in-room guest amenities and appointments include the following: a snack basket, a mini-fridge, Nespresso coffee machine, in-room Zero water filtering system, Englunder mattress with premium linens, plush bathrobes, 50-inch flat-screen TV, free WIFI, spacious bathrooms with Nest bath products, and an Alexa dot. All guests are offered a noon checkout time. Each of the distinctively designed rooms are nonsmoking.
“I love challenging projects and putting things together,” said Marcene Miller, owner and operator, At the Helm. “The craftsmanship of the existing structure and setting overlooking the marina was too good to pass up and provided the inspiration to create something really special.”
Five guest rooms at At the Helm face the Port of Ilwaco’s 800-slip marina and have alcohol-fueled fireplaces. Waterline, the hotel’s pub, serves lunch and dinner daily. For breakfast, overnight guests have the option of having locally sourced breakfast items delivered to their room. Other public areas include an enclosed nook on the second floor overlooking the marina and an outdoor fire pit area.
In Long Beach, Adrift Hospitality completed construction of the Pool House, located to the south of Adrift Hotel and east of the two existing buildings comprising the Inn at Discovery Coast.
The first floor of the Pool House consists of a heated saline soaking pool, dry sauna and four new spa treatment rooms with services including natural facials, manicures and pedicures. The second floor of the Pool House is home to six newly designed guest rooms from Inn at Discovery Coast, with luxury amenities including jetted tubs, gas fireplaces and private balconies overlooking the beach forest.
“Demand for rooms at the Inn at Discovery Coast prompted the expansion,” said Tiffany Turner, CEO, Adrift Hospitality. “We were also looking at ways to make our guest experience even better with the addition of the pool and new spa rooms.”
In recent years, the Long Beach Peninsula has also seen the following lodging-related developments:
- A new, indoor swimming pool and jetted hot tub at The Breakers Resort Long Beach;
- Five restored vintage travel trailers added at The Sou’wester Historic Lodge and Vintage Trailer Park in Seaview;
- Second-floor event space with sweeping views of Ilwaco’s bustling marina added at Salt Hotel & Pub;
- Refurbishment of the historic Shelburne Hotel, the oldest continuously operating hotel in Washington State, now under the stewardship of Adrift Hospitality;
- Indoor tennis courts at the Lighthouse Resort, Long Beach;
- B Corp certification for Adrift Hospitality.
Near by, Tokeland Hotel, the oldest hotel in Washington, has seen a general spruce up and complete renovation of guest rooms under new ownership by renowned Seattle chef, Heather Earnhardt and her contractor husband, Zac Young.
