Summary[edit]

Description
English: Wynee, a Native of Owyhee, one of the Sandwich Islands. This fine engraving of a Woman of the Hawaiian Islands was sketched by a member of Captain John Meares' crew during his voyages to America's Pacific Northwest, China and Hawaii in the years 1786, 1788 and 1789. Wynee went to the Pacific Northwest aboard the British ship Imperial Eagle as the servant of wife of the ship's captain Charles Barkley. She was left in Canton where she decided to return to Hawaii aboard Captain John Meares's ship with fellow Hawaiian Kaiana, but she died of illness on the voyage on February 5, 1788.
