Description CAPT. JOHN MEARES “Pic de Lantao Près de l'entrée du Bocca Tigris”. Paris c. 1794. B/W. 7½ × 9¼. Fine engraved view from the French Edition of Meare's "Voyages," shows the island of Lantao situated at the mouth of the Canton River, to the west of Hong Kong & opposite Macao. The view was drawn on the spot by one of Meares' crew, T. S. Parry. This peaceful view, with the islands twin peaks & sailing vessels below, is one of the earliest views of Lantao.
