John Meares, a British marine explorer and nautical captain of the 18th century.

Drawing by Richard A. Cassidy who kindly permitted the work for publishing at Wikimedia publications within the limits of cc-sa-2.0.

He wrote to me upon request: "You have my permission to publish my pen and ink drawing of John Meares, as shown on my web site." (letter dated 2005-05-13).
