Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Hi, Jenith, You cannot grab any image from the web and upload. Instead, you have to look for licenses, commons accepts. Have a look at COM:L to get an impression. E.g. Flickr is a good source. Read COM:Flickr. -- RE rillke questions? 15:09, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Be careful with Flickr uploads too. Although the two files you uploaded from Flickr (Commons:Deletion requests/File:Rajni-Aamir.jpg) had compatible licenses, the person who had uploaded the files did not own the copyright for the images and therefore those images while they passed initial review, were subsequently deleted. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 13:40, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Actually, I am looking for the models set and some other pictures from Flickr I like to contribute to commons. May be the degree of uploading high in 'Girl' tags. Is anything wrong?--Yjenith (talk) 03:55, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
You're not necessarily violating any Commons policies, but if you upload a lot of semi-random snapshots, and photographs which look a lot like other photographs, without considering relevance for the intended purposes of Commons, then you could end up annoying people...
